Work on the second phase of the deep gravity foul sewer network has begun at Diyar Al Muharraq, the master-plan developer announced yesterday.

This comes as an extension to construction completed in the initial phase, and aims to deliver sewerage services to the Mozoon residential project, the retail and marina promenade in Al Naseem, the townhouses project, in addition to future planned projects.

P2m Berlin has been appointed by Diyar Al Muharraq as the engineering consultant for the project with construction being commissioned to Al Hassanein Company.

Work on the second phase has already started in mid-March of this year and is scheduled for completion in the third quarter this year.

The infrastructure being laid out in this phase will also enable future development and expansion plans in the Northern islands of Diyar Al Muharraq.

Diyar Al Muharraq chief executive Ahmed Ali Alammadi said: “This initiative comes in line with our commitment to develop all areas of the city’s masterplan with the highest quality infrastructure and an integrated sanitation system, to serve our communities best. We look forward to seeing through the completion of this phase with the utmost precision and efficiency, according to schedule.”

Diyar Al Muharraq’s sewer network is designed to connect wastewater directly to ground storage tanks near the entrance of the city, allowing it to be pumped into the treatment plant connected to the local sewerage system.

The system constructed is therefore autonomous, eliminating the need for transportation by tankers.
