Super Cup to kick off new season

The 2019/2020 season of the Bahrain Basketball Association is scheduled to tip off on Thursday with the Zain Super Cup.

The Super Cup is the traditional season-opener of the national campaign, and it is contested between the previous season’s league champions and Khalifa bin Salman Cup holders.

This year’s edition will therefore be between Muharraq and Riffa.

Muharraq are the reigning champions of the Zain Bahrain Basketball League, while Riffa captured last season’s coveted Khalifa bin Salman Cup.

The Super Cup is scheduled for a 7pm tip-off and it will be played at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam.

Last year’s Super Cup was won by Manama, who defeated Muharraq in the one-off game 72-66.

Following this contest, the new league is scheduled to begin just a few days later.

The BBA released the schedule for the first round of the season, which once again includes 12 teams.

Opening night has been set for August 4. Two games are scheduled that evening, beginning with Al Ahli taking on Samaheej followed by Al Najma clashing with Al Ettihad.

Week One continues on Monday with Bahrain Club playing Isa Town and Muharraq taking on Nuwaidrat.

The final game day of this opening period will be on Tuesday, with Manama facing Sitra and Riffa taking on Al Hala.
