Five Indian crew members drowned due to the cyclone Hikaa, which lashed the Omani territorial waters recently.

Their fishing boat was also smashed into two halves which caused their death, said the Indian Embassy in Muscat.

The bodies of three of the five crew members have been found while search operations are still underway for the other bodies.

“There were eight people in the fishing vessel – five Indians and three Bangladeshis, according to an official at the Indian Embassy in Muscat.

The crew and ship left for sea on September 17 and the incident was reported to the embassy on September 26.
