He said: “We will have more than two field hospitals ready in Dubai in the coming days to be ready for any situation.”
A select number of five-star hotels are being used as quarantine centres in the emirate.
According to reports, authorities in Dubai and the UAE capital Abu Dhabi are also using idle hotels to monitor people with minor cases of Covid-19.
Anyone who has come into contact with a positive case is being asked to self-quarantine for two weeks, while residents living in crowded apartments or who share their home with family, are being transferred to a hotel, in some instances.
People who have travelled into the country during the lockdown period will also be put up in a hotel for the necessary quarantine period.
Dubai has ordered a 24-hour lockdown, with residents requiring a permit in order to leave their homes in order to get essential supplies from supermarkets or pharmacies.
The emirate has also completely locked down the Al Ras and Naif areas of the emirate, where extensive testing has taken place.
The UAE currently has 3,736 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 20 deaths reported, the second highest country in the GCC, behind Saudi Arabia.
