Bishops thank Bahrain king for pardoning 16 Filipinos

CBCP-ECMI vice chairman Bishop Ruperto Santos said King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain gave the said Filipinos “new life” with his compassionate gesture.

“That is (a) very compassionate goodwill gesture of King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. He has given them new life,” he said in an interview.

“His pardon is great help and assurance of healing especially in this time of pandemic,” added Santos.

“We, in the CBCP-ECMI, are very grateful to the Kingdom of Bahrain and to government officials who made this valuable assistance and merciful pardon possible,” he said.

The prelate said they are hoping and praying that such inspiring example would lead everyone to “value our works, our relationships and lives for the best and as blessings to others.”

President Duterte on Sunday also thanked the Kingdom of Bahrain for granting pardon to the 16 Filipinos.

“His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa’s forgiveness paves the way for the release of these 16 Filipinos and their return to the Philippines in due course,” the Office of the Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs (OPAFA) said in a statement.

“This act of humanity by His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa provides renewed hope and an opportunity for out countrymen and women to build new lives,” it further read.
