Board of Trustees Chairman of the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa,

has stressed that creating appropriate conditions for research production, achievement and development tops the national priorities, and enjoys full support from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Dr. Shaikh Abulla bin Ahmed was speaking during his participation in the virtual panel discussion held by the G20 Thought Group Summit on role research centres in change and development.

Derasat Chairman reviewed the kingdom’s pioneering experience in enhancing research and development across various fields, in a manner that suits the society’s needs, and meets its aspirations.

He indicated that the Kingdom is striving to consolidate a “knowledge partnership” in all stages of education to enhance the capabilities of research and development, citing, in this regard, the launch of the “King Hamad Schools of the Future Project” in 2015 to develop the comprehensive use of information and communication technology in education, and to introduce the concept of learning, in addition to the Crown Prince International Scholarship Programme (CPISP), which provides distinguished opportunities for outstanding students to continue their studies at the most prestigious international universities.

He added that the kingdom boasts an advanced information and communication technology, prompting world companies to choose it as its regional centre, and leading to the emergence of important technological and technical partnerships in this field.

He pointed out that the Economic Vision for Bahrain 2030 attaches great importance to developing research, and promoting the culture of innovation and creativity, adding that the kingdom has made major strides in providing support and incentives, through the launch of international awards and creative initiatives.

He indicated that the “Derasat” Centre places the issue of research development at the forefront of its interests, as it is an intellectual and knowledge institution. He pointed out that Derasat is implementing a training programme to develop youth’s research, applied and innovative skills, in line with the constant interest of the Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in developing the youth sector.

Concluding, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed affirmed that Bahrain attaches great interest in academic research, given its importance in achieving sustainable development and enhancing progress and welfare.
