A call to draw up new concepts for future central markets has gone out from municipal councillors. They want any new central market to offer comprehensive services, including all kinds of products and items, besides fresh produce. A proposal in this regard has been submitted by the Southern Municipal Council to the Cabinet, with councillors also urging that as an experiment central markets be kept open beyond its normal closing time of 2pm. The proposal is being spearheaded by council chairman Bader Al Tamimi who said central markets had bigger potential.
