Bahrain’s Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs, and Urban Planning has commenced construction work on the road development project in Complex 913 in Riffa, located in the Southern Governorate, with the project being commissioned by GASCO under a contract valued at $2.3m (BHD863,260) awarded by the Tender Board.

The project aims to improve the internal road network, raise the level of traffic safety, and alleviate the problem of rainwater flooding in the region.

Talking about the project, Eng. Syed Badr Alawi, Director of Roads Projects and Maintenance Department at the ministry, explained that the project’s scope of work includes developing Road 1311 and 1317, in addition to the roads in the northern part of the complex, providing pedestrian side sidewalks, establishing a network for rainwater drainage, improving the level of lighting, providing traffic signs and signboards necessary and setting Safety barriers in areas that require it.

The project also includes re-paving and constructing the infrastructure for the two roads, 1311,1213, in addition to re-paving several roads with asphalt, including 1301,1304,1307,1379,1369, and establishing several parking spaces in the area.

The news comes days after the ministry noted that construction work has been progressing on Bahrain’s Complex 914 internal road network project in East Riffa, with the project having hit 30% completion.

The project includes the development of several complex roads, including renovating and paving them, in addition to establishing a rainwater drainage network. The construction of the drainage network comes in line with the department’s plans to treat rainwater pools in Road 1401 and Road 1412.
