Bahrain destination weddings contribute $5.5mln to national economy

Bahrain recently played host to 3,000 wedding guests from both Bahrain and from around the world in the last two months of 2019.

during which it hosted eight Indian weddings, which directly contributed $5.5 million to the national economy.

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) – which organised these weddings, from coordination to planning and logistics – said the majority of those wedding guests (2,400) flew in with Gulf Air.

Chief executive officer of BTEA, Nader Al Moayyed, said:

“We are incredibly proud of BTEA’s achievements and their success in enhancing the kingdom’s position as a leading destination to hosting weddings and other celebrations.”

He added:

Bahrain will be hosting even more weddings in the coming months. This comes as a result of the tourism sector’s advanced infrastructure which boasts four- and five-star hotels, in addition to dedicated F&B and entertainment sectors, as well as an abundance of event management companies with vast capabilities to create unique wedding concepts catering to client’s varied interests and tastes.”

Al Moayyed also said that BTEA aims to encourage soon-to-weds to choose Bahrain as their location for the weddings by playing a pivotal role in providing the necessary support to facilitate the process, which includes effectively coordinating between formal and semi-formal entities to ensure they work as an integrated team, as well as provide logistical support to suppliers and specialists in the field, such as Gulf Air to ease the travel arrangements for their guests.

BTEA is continually working towards establishing Bahrain as a leading destination for wedding and other celebrations, and actualising the kingdom’s potential as a leading island wedding destination of choice by showcasing its advanced tourism facilities and infrastructure and unique combination of modern city life with leading hotels and world class restaurants nestled alongside old historical sites and landmarks.
